Hack #4: Convert DVD, video, audio, iTunes and YouTube video to Zune or Zune 2 - this hack gives you directions to convert DVD and popular video and audio file formats like AVI, MPEG, DivX, XviD, MOV, ASF, RM to Zune, convert iTunes to Zune, iPod to Zune, M4P to Zune, M4v to Zune, and download and convert video from YouTube, FLV, Google, Myspace, iFilm, etc. to Zune. It was written up for the original Zunes, but sources say it works on Zune 2.
Hack #8: Hack the new Zune 2.0 software to display custom themes - registered members at this forum can download custom themes called zThemes like this Halo 3 one or this Vista one. (Download link here)

Very nice! I am a big fan of customizing my gui on every PC, laptop, device I own. I just read about the zthemes yesterday, but I did not see a way to use them on the newer firmware.
DOH! I thought the zthemes were for the Zune itself, not the software… oh well still cool.
I really like Hack 8. I’m surprised that the Zune Team didn’t have a SDK ready on their site on how to exactly do this. It seems so simple.
This is another Plus for me. I really like the idea of customizing my UI its very pleasing to have your own style. This keeps getting better and better after every week and I can’t wait to see how things come out in a couple months. I really think that the Zune community is very creative and they will find all kind of cool tips, tricks and hacks to do to the New Zunes. I will be login into that site and getting some Zthemes when I get my own Zune. Keep it up with all the great finds Chris.

I never been very big on hacking my devices. I know lot of people like to hack game systems, mobile devices and such but there too much risk there for me.
I noticed that a lot of these hacks for getting different types of video to play on the Zune. I just never been big on watching video on the Zune. I like that it has the ability but I dont travel much so I dont really have the need for it right now.
Don’t expect the Zune team to do anything about Hack 8. They should have opened it up for users to choose but it must have been pretty low on their priority list. The first thing that they need to change is the rating system and allow smart playlists. Some people have also requested a clock on the home screen, wonder where that is on the priority list.
Many of these hacks seem to be recycled hacks from the last version. For example, one of the first hacks says you’ll be able to play “AAC” audio files. The new firmware already allowed you to do this.
Plus, I’ve tried this hack with the old software in trying to get the Zune software to convert AVI files onto my Zune. The conversion quality was terrible.

If I had a zune I would not hack it for several reasons. fir stI hacked my old ipod mini and it broke because of it, and I just think i would like my zune the way it is without Hacking it.
