Even though the Zune and Xbox product brands are separate, they are ultimately meant to connect to the same central network.
The Zune guys have to run really fast. The Windows Mobile guys are on a two-year release cycle. The Xbox team now needs to focus on cost reduction, distribution and quality process. Everyone is on their own cadence. The one thing that transcends all this is the network as the nexus.
If you are in an MP3 aisle, we want to be the connected MP3 player. That’s mainly connecting artist and audience together, mostly around the culture of music. Yes, we’ll do video. Yes, we’ll do games. But the heart and soul of that brand is music.
Xbox is the most connected game experience. When you go down the gaming aisle, you’ll see we can do things others can’t do. We keep hitting on the idea of connections.
Sound good J, roll on!

I thought this bit was pretty interesting…
Says J, “Today we have Xbox live for $50 a year. We have Zune Pass at $15 a month. We don’t have a rationalized premium version yet. Fast forward a little bit, and you can image a menu like DirecTV. There is basic, there is enhanced, there is movie pack and NFL Sunday ticket.”
I think Microsoft’s biggest strengths will be in converging all there separate business units until they compliment each other. You already have the XBOX working as a media center extender. I’d like to see these 3 elements (Zune, XBOX, and Media Center) work very close together to make a seamless entertainment experience.
Also the other big thing they need to do is integrate XBox Live and Zune Live Subscription into one. Buy one subscription and enjoy media of any format (movies / games / music) with it. I have heard rumors that instead of copying apple to bring TV shows to ZMP they plan to have a free ad based shows. They are in talks with the TV industry but we don’t know how far they are, but when that happens it will be super cool.
J. Allard has some very good things for Microsoft. I wish good luck to him in the future. Keep up the good work.
he is doing very well and microsoft as a whole is also hitting the whole social/live thing right on the money. Keep it up microsoft
I think thta is a great plan. They did good with zune xbox and pc know they just have to add it all into one
It sounds good, I just hope they can acheive it. It honestly didnt help that a lot of people were mad at Vista and Zune1 this year.
I dont think anyone was mad at the original Zune. I would say they were disappointed at most. I like the original Zune but I felt it lacked a lot features.
