I am in search of a way to bring my TV Shows to my Zune.
I have Direct TV and I have the Direct TV HD Tivo. This box has a ethernet cable on the back as well as some USB Connections. This is the box I have...
What I want to do is find a way to take my TV shows I record and get them on my PC so I can encode them to sync with my Zune.
I am off to go watch some College Football now, but I thought I would throw this out there and see if anyone has any ideas for me.

I have a regular Tivo, not the DirecTV model. But I’ll tell you how I do it.
I use TivoDesktop, which is a free program put out by Tivo for transferring files. They call the file format TivoToGo. The TivoToGo files are DRM protected. Tivo will sell you an update to the Tivo Desktop software that will allow you to convert from the Tivo format into other formats.
However I’m cheap, so use a freeware program called DSD (Or DirectShow Dump) which will covert the .tivo DRM’d files into standard MPEG2 files. There’s no reencoding, so its really fast.
Then just load the .mpg files into Windows Movie Maker (Free with Windows XP and Vista) and then export it from there in WMV format for Pocket PC. Then it can load into the Zune without needing the Zune software to do any more conversions.
Thanks Shawndoc, i was looking for away to this a couple of moth back..i thought it was impossible so i just gave up.
If you look on the website and other forums for your DVR, it has an USB connector to allow you to connect it to a computer or external hard drive. Once you transfer it to your computer it shouldn’t be to much more difficult as the files are already in MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 format. You would just need to make sure to convert them to a file format that is playable on your zune. I hope this helps
One little problem with the USB ports, on the Directv DVR boxes, the usb port does nothing but puts out the standard power of a USB port, so, really the only way to get the programs onto your PC would be to have a tv tuner, and record them in Windows Media Center if you have it… OR if you want to wait, the little description in the booklet says for future use..
I hate DirectTV. They are evil.
I have a new Dell Inspiron 1720 with Vista Home Premium. I need to add tv to it (no tv tuner yet). I’d love some suggestions too !
No sling or tivo but I can add it to the list to Santa
