Here's another article about the lack of availability of the Zune 80.
Not having Zune 80s on the shelves today, traditionally one of the busiest shopping days of the year, won't help Microsoft's battle against iPod.
"People are really frustrated trying to get one of these," says Albert Wang, 31, of Salt Lake City, who unsuccessfully tried to buy a Zune 80 in his local Best Buy.
I personally like this line...
Still, there are people who have been holding out for an iPod alternative who are willing to wait a bit longer, says Chris Leckness, who runs Gotzune.com, a Zune enthusiast site. "Many people are not buying into the idea you have to buy an iPod to be cool," he says.
Did I ever mention here that the pop culture aura surrounding the iPods is one of the reasons I dislike Apple? My daughter used to tell me that you have to have an iPod branded player to be cool at school.

cool. You got quoted in USAToday. My nephew who is highschool got a Zune because it was NOT an iPod. Supposedly, the tide is shifting and in order to be cool, you need a non-iPod. With the new Zunes hardware, I think many more youngsters will be getting a Zune this year. I’m very interested in seeing the sales reports after the XMas season.
if nobody owned an ipod i probbably buyed one (zune isn’t availlable where i live).
I was never an iPod person; I did however own a nano, when the zune was announced I made the decision to switch then and there, nothing worse than seeing everyone on the streetcar or subway with the same white headphone.
Ive convinced 8 or 9 people to swithch to zune saying that same thing "u wanna have the SAME device as EVEYONE else?" eventually it worked and now i have many people to trade songs with.
And i just hate how every mp3 player there is..is instantly a "copy" of the ipod..
USA Today!
Nice.
This is a story from a year back, my boss was shopping to buy his daughter an music player. He found a really cool sony that was slightly more expensive than the iPod and more sleek looking, yet his daughter did not want anything but iPod. That has become the fashion in schools and it will be very difficult for Microsoft to change that.
i got lucky and got one!
