I've listened to a ton of music in the Zune Software and on the Zune 80, but my plays weren't updating. You have to log in. Dumb Chris... doh.
Here are some Questions answered from Zune.net forums...
Q: Why aren't all of my plays showing up on my Zune Social profile page?
A: For your plays to be tracked, you must sign in to your Zune account through the Zune software at least once. (Make sure that the Zunetag in the upper right corner of the Zune software matches the Zune tag for your Zune Social profile). For device plays to be tracked, you must also associate your device with your Zune Social account. This can be done through the "settings" tab in the Zune software.
Songs will then appear in your recently played list if they meet the following criteria:
The song was played on your Zune device or from your collection within the Zune software
The following actions will not result in a song play being uploaded to your recently played list:
The song was streamed directly from the Zune Marketplace without first being downloaded to your collection
The song was a clip played either from the Zune Marketplace or Zune.net
The song is from an album that is not listed in the All Media Guide
Playing most songs within your collection will result in a play being uploaded to your recently played list, but there will be some songs that do not. We have worked hard to extend coverage beyond what is currently available in the Zune Marketplace and are committed to expanding the coverage further in the future.
Q: When do my plays get uploaded to the Zune Social?
A: Play data is uploaded to your profile 1 minute after you open the Zune Software, every 15 minutes while the application remains open and upon shutdown of the application. You must sign in through the Zune Software at least once to ensure that the play data is being uploaded to the correct profile. During subsequent sessions, however, sign in is not required for play data upload.
Q: Why am I not showing up as a top listener?
A: There are two reasons why you may not be showing up as a top listener even though you have more album or artist plays than other top listeners. The first is that top listeners are not updated immediately and may need a few minutes to refresh the list. The second is that you have your "Share Music Activity" privacy setting set to something other than "Everybody." In this case, we respect your wish for privacy and don't show you on any top listener lists.
Q: Why are my recent plays showing up in a different order than I played them?
A: The recently-played list is not a list ordered on time of play but time of sync.
Q: How long do I have to play a track for it to count as a play?
A: A track must be played for 20 seconds in order to count as an official play.
Q: What about songs I play using Media Player and iTunes?
A: Only tracks played on a Zune device or through the Zune Software will appear on your Zune profile.
Q: Why are my podcasts not showing up?
A: Currently, displaying podcast plays is not supported. We also do not display video plays.

that is really od i do not think i like that so much. It should just do it automatically when you sync your player
I think the Zune tags are a great idea. I haven’t had much time to explore it more thoroughly, but I have been able to find other people with similar tastes as mine and I like some of the songs that they are listening to. It’s a great way to find new music.
Chris, do you already have the Win a Zune device and if yes then you are doing a good job of hiding it from Susan
The Zune tag was a great idea. It really is a good way to display to the world what kind of music you are interested in. Looking through some of the Zune tags in the official forums is very interested.
I think some of the top listeners are starting up their Zune software and just letting it run through they collection. If the software was just released on Tuesday how did some of these guys listen to so much music? The top guys were over 100,000 plays.
The Zune v1 software must have tracked their listening habits for over a year now, that’s why they have those big play numbers.
The zune tags are a great social additon. Does anyone know if your Tag is on the zune itself. That would also be very cool.
When you connect your Zune it asks if you want to associate your Zune Tag with it. If you have an Xbox live account, it will ask if you want to use that as they are all the same account.
I’m not able to make this work.:/ Did everything that I could and still my plays are not registered. I would like that very much.
I am frustrated because on Zune.net the ‘Social Notification Preferences’ (in My Account) page has been down for a while, and I could really use that page right now…
My song plays will not be showing up until they fix that damn page.
