I have started a battery test tonight on the Zune 30 with 2.2 firmware, the Zune 80, the 8gb flash Zune, the iPod Nano Fatty, and the iPod Classic 80gb.
Update 1 - 10:45am CST, 8 1/2 hours in and none of them are even 1/2 life yet.
Update 2 - 2pm CST, 12 hours in. Zune 30 almost dead. All the others 1/2 life or slightly under
Update 3 - 2:45pm CST, Zune 30 dies. 12 hours 45 minutes.
Update 4 - Sad news at 8pm CST, Zune 8gb Flash dies. 18 hours. Zune 80 ~20%, iPod Classic ~33%, and iPod Nano ~25%. Not looking good for the Zune crowd.
Update 5 - Bad new Zune Fans... Zune 80 died at 10:20pm CST. That is less than 24 hours. 20 hours and 20 minutes. The iPods, both of them are still going. I will let them finish out before I post final numbers. Of course, this is just one test, but I am not happy.
Update 6 - iPod Nano dies at 2:25 am, 24 hours and 20 minutes. iPod Classic dies at 7:15 am, 31 hours and 15 minutes.
I am going to retest the Zunes with the same test later today. I realized that I had WiFi enabled on all of them.
All within a 2 minute period, I powered them all on after fresh full charges. I have the earbuds that go with the player (except I have ultimate ears on the Zune 30) plugged in to them. I am going to run them all until they quit. All the players are on shuffle all songs repeat mode.
This should be a fun real life test. Not very technical, but fun and true.
Company Announced Battery Times are Zune 30 - up to 14 hours, Zune 4/8 - up to 24 hours, Zune 80 up to 30 hours, iPod Classic 80gb - Up to 30 hours, and iPod Nano Up to 24 hours.

do you have the wifi turned off on the Zunes?
Yeah do you have the wi-fi off. And also can you do a video drain test, i think that would be an interesting view
Could you also do a drain test between all three zunes with the wi-fi enabled
I always turn the Wifi off on my Zune 30 because tt drains the power. Im really interested in see results with both the wifi on and the wifi off.
I hope the new Zunes list longer than the Zune 30. I used mine at work a lot and the power sure seemed to drain pretty quickly.
Keep us posted that would be grate, i hope the zune 80 beats out the ipod
well zune 30 went down with a fight, thats great for that generation of mp3 players
The sad thing is that the big brick I have, the dell DJ 20gb gen 1 did 22+ hours, but it’s HUGE.
I really Figure the time would have lasted a little longer on the Zune30. Kinda sad taht it died so fast.. I was really hoping to hear some good out of this. I would also like to see the difference within the 3 Zunes with Wifi on/off. Sounds like it could realy make a difference.

Wow the Zunes just cant make it with the wifi enabled. Its sucks that battery dry so quickly. I cant wait for the results without wifi enabled.
you scared me there. i was thinkeing there is no way this could be with wifi off!
Yeah Chris but i had a old dell and they made sure that the battery for that thing blew away the comp, thats one reason it was so big was the big battery
Yeah, stupid wifi. Anyways, wow. That was like a race. And then I was laughing hilariously because it reminded me of a doctor writing down the time of death. But yes, good information to know….=/
when the results come in for the Zune without Wifi I think it will be a whole lot better.
I heard that the Zune 80 battery life is not as good as the Zune 30’s battery life.
wow ever told you that noble is wrong. The zune eight has a much better battery life that excededs the thirty by two times if the wi fi is turned off
[...] I took and started up a few Zunes and iPods with full battery charges, etc last [...]
