Nothing to see here, just someone asking some journalist a question about the Zune. She should have told the inquiring, future Zune owner that the Zune's WiFi cooked dinner too.
The great thing is that she is honest and sounds as if she knows what she is talking about. I heard rumors that the WiFi would be used to hit the interwebs one day on the Zune. One Click WiFi downloads from the Zune Marketplace would bring me more joy this Christmas than peace on earth.
Question: I'm looking for a new MP3 player. I'm leaning toward an 80-gigabyte Zune. I know it has built-in Wi-Fi. Does the Wi-Fi require a monthly subscription?
Answer: There are no monthly fees, but the Microsoft Zune's Wi-Fi may not be what you expect. You can use it to share songs with other Zune users. It also synchronizes with your computer wirelessly. Unfortunately, you can't connect to the Internet with the Zune. That means you won't be browsing with it. If you want to use the Web, consider Apple's iPod Touch. It has a Web browser, but it's more expensive than the Zune, has less storage and won't synchronize with your computer wirelessly. So, it's a trade-off.

Like I have said before. Really don’t care to browse the web on a MP3 player. Now being able to scan songs and download wirelessly from the marketplace would be sweet!
Well, considering that the Zune is in direct competition with the Classic, it’s not really a tradeoff, more of a huge advantage over the competition?
At least she had most of her facts straight.
I’d love to be able to download songs, and surf the web. I think we’ll see wireless downloads before the web, but I’d be happy with that.
She was honest about what the wi-fi does. I don’t think its her trashing the Zune, but more like telling people what the wi-fi is all about.
I’m not up to the point of needing an iPod touch to browse the web. I want my media player to play media, and that’s about it. I mean, it’d be cool, but I’m not sure how one would go about it on a Zune.
Totally agree with FatalFlaw. I think web would be an added bonus . . . not sure how much I would use it. Now wireless downloads I would check often, but then again it’s not hard to check on a computer.
Kim glossing over another honest tech question.
She’s always doing this. I bet she has an intern that does the research and gives her the reports.
Don’t be too harsh on her. At least she actually goes through the effort to hire someone.
