Ok, so I was out doing some last minute shopping ( Small HD Flat Screen LCD for the bedroom for my wife ), and in the process I visited Wal Mart, Target, and Circuit City. Here is what I learned at each store...
Wal Mart
Zero Zune 80s in stock, several Flash Zunes. No Pink Zunes. No Zune 30s. Yes, Zune 30s are selling at $199.99 retail prices fast. That's what the associate I talked to said.
Target
7 Zune 80s and almost no Flash Zunes. No Pink Flash Zunes. Plenty of Zune 30s.
Circuit City
I asked the salesman what is the best mp3 player they have. He said the iPod. I said why and he didn't have an answer. Is he trained to say that? Anyhow, he said the iPod Touch is selling like hot cakes. I looked down and there were 30 or so of them as if the stash was untouched. The Zune 80 looked the same way, there were at least 10 of them there. The flash Zunes were bare as could be too. He said that lots are asking for 4gb pink Zunes.
Anyhow, that's my town and the Zune in the marketplace 3 days before Christmas.

Nice report, thanks. I was wondering how everything looked. I am going to try to get out a little later today and check out what it’s like here. I’ll keep you all informed
that’s crazy. I thought the pink zunes would be all over the place.
Girls just tend to care about style more than guys. so i assumed the pink zunes would be the slowest to sell.
Very cool to hear.
I just came from the BestBuy at zip-code 84058…and I found the following.
1) All 2nd Gen Zunes (4 GB, 8GB and 80 GB) are sold out! Three (3) Zune 30s are still instock. iPods are still in stock but seem to be moving along pretty quickly.
2) People are looking for accessories for the Zune since I saw 2 guys come in looking for the dock, cables, FM transmitters etc.
3) One lady (i guess she’s a mother) came in and was asking about the Zune. The Best Buy guy was telling her that there is the iPod to which the mother said, "but the Zune is better since it has a larger screen". I jumped in and said that the 80 GB Zune is better.
4) People aren’t too interested in the iPod touch since people looked at them and moved on
5) Other MP3 players (Sansa, Creative etc.) are being sold like hot cakes.
Just my $0.02 of what I saw.
Oops, by style i meant trendiness and that they’d go along with the iPod crowd.
OK update from Tulsa Oklahoma.
Best Buy - all 2nd gens gone. A few 30’s not sure how many.
Circuit City - Few 80 left, some flashes. Thinking maybe 15 of the 80 and 10 of the flashes. The guy was being a jerk. He asked why I was looking at the Zunes because the iPods were better. I asked him if that was why there were more iPods left than there were Zunes.
As I was going home I stopped by Wal-Mart just to see: three red flash zunes left. A few 30s as well. That is it.
I only went to the stores that were by my house. There is another BB and CC in town. Along with a ton of Wal-Marts. Oh and didn’t see a pink one anywhere.
Hope this helps. Looks like I’ll have to wait for the next shipment to maybe be able to pick one up.
Hmmm…well at least the Zunes aren’t in the same situation as the Wiis.
Nintendo could have cashed in big this holiday season, I’m wondering if the shortage was deliberate or not.
hmm. I wonder if my local stores have any.
I’ll be hitting Best Buy tomorrow. I do love the Pink flash Zunes followed closely by the green, and then red and black.
I’ll let you know what I see.
I stopped at BB, and they only had flash Zunes. I saw red and Black.
My local Wal-Mart’s out of 80s, has some flashes and a couple of Zune 30s on sale.
When I was shopping a couple of weeks before Christmas there was a woman at Best Buy proselytizing the Zunes big-time. Not a Best Buy sales drone, either.
