Over at Zune Thoughts, Jason Dunn shares an issue he encountered recently with his Zune 80.
I was recently in Amsterdam, at a Microsoft conference called Mobius, and there were a few Zune users in the room. Two of them were Microsoft employees, and we decided to share a few songs wirelessly - or, more accurately, we tried to. No matter how many times I tried, my Zune 80 simply would not connect to either the Zune 8 or the other Zune 80 in the room. At first I thought it was because I was about 20 feet away, but that seemed kind of feeble - I was sure my Zune could reach the other Zunes. And it was certainly seeing the other Zunes ok, so why couldn't it send?
Wonder what was up with that...
Anyhow, this past weekend I had issues of my own. I lost my 500gb external drive that houses all my movies and music. With the Zune Software not able to see this drive, I had some issues. I am fairly sure it's related... All my songs went to and error message and would not play. Tonight, I got that drive back to work and resync'ed the Zune 80... No luck. I rebooted the Zune... No luck.
What I ended up having to do is erase 40gb of info from the Zune and start over. It's still resync'ing now. The good news is that my songs *do* work again!

Chris, that sucks that you couldn’t connect with the Zunes. Were the other Zunes able to share between them? Hopefully since they were MS employees this might get the word in faster that there are still a few issues. Glad to hear you got your external back and finally your Zune working again. Just too bad you have to deal with all this!!!
Yeah I feel for you, its hard enough to even come in contact with other users that have them, and for it not to work would really disappoint me.
I had a similar issue when I reformatted my PC and synced my zune.. It recognized my newly formatted PC as a new PC and synced my library all over again… So I had double copies of all my songs & Podcasts on my Zune 80… Fortunately Zune software has a little indicator which displayed that I had songs from a diff PC and I just deleted that content…
But it felt kinda weird… MS still has a long way to go to perfect zune products
I should think that this can all be solved in future software/firmware updates.
The Zune is quite a capable device, as we’ve all learned. It just hasn’t quite reached its full potential.
December’s update will hopefully fix some of the bugs with the wifi. As well as the battery problems some people are dealing with.
