Microsoft Buys Zune.com Domain Name

I can't get anything to pull up when I type in Zune.com, but others show a Under Construction page. I heard something a while back about the Zune.com domain being bought, but I don't think I was running this blog. Maybe I heard they were trying to get it. I think they could have just aquired it via the court systems, but I think they paid for it...

...Microsoft's and has been since November 26, 2007 according to who.is!! The site seems to be under construction according to aboutus.org so it's interesting see if and how Microsoft will use it.

Let the speculation begin. I know I would just mirror it with what I already have at Zune.net if I were Microsoft...

Agreed Chris,

There’s not much else they could do with it. I’m sure it’s to shore up any lose ends and make sure they’re not getting people misdirected. Apple, for example, has ipod.com and itunes.com both redirecting to their site. I’d think that’s what MS would do too….

yeah, it will most likely just be a auto re direct. also, with microsoft pushing silverlight(i hear they are making all of microsoft.com fully silverlight, could be wrong though) do you think it will effect zune.net?

Besides using it as a re-direct, I figured they would want it so no one would use it as an anti-Zune site. I could see some Apple fans grabbing the name, and when you go there, its all about the iPod.

I don’t know.
Redirecting a URL is really easy stuff, so if they were to do that (and they’ve owned the domain since November) they would have done it already.

It’s possible they’re going to move Zune.net over to the Dot Com or something, but even that is really easy. Maybe, since the Zune name will eventually translate to a whole series of media products, the home will eventually be Zune.com. Maybe when the Social beta is over, the 1.0 will be on .com.

I have no idea.

i think they should make it like a whole new site dedicated to like the social of the zune. with maybe a more elaborate forum space.

Not a bad point chiman2. I think that would be an interesting concept. A site tailor made for the Zune social.

chiman2 : sounds interesting and if MS does such thing then it will be great.But to be honest all i see is another old fashioned site and nothing more than that :(:(:(

ya it will probably be like zune.net or something. just plain. but still shouldnt they have bought that and started before this? kinda late. but better late than never.

zune.com is now redirecting to zune.net
