OK, so I was redesigning my personal blog (ChrisLeckness.com) yesterday and while I was working on my photo gallery, I noticed the set from the Linkin Park show I attended a few months ago. This event was put on by Sandisk to launch their 8gb MicroSD card. It was a huge party and Linkin Park was the headliner. They played to a small, intimate crowd that I was lucky enough to be at. (Thanks Sandisk). I really love Zune, but I also like Sandisk's offerings as well. Even though I am quite bias towards Zune, I give Apple and Sandisk a fair shake. For a while, I used the Sansa Connect Exclusively. I really liked the Yahoo Music Service integration.
Anywho... I was thinking... Open your ears Zune Team. Zune 3 Launch (we can only assume that there will be one) Why don't you guys pull in a HUGE artist like Linkin Park for a launch party next time around. I know that the Zune vibe tends to evolve around indie type artists, but take it to the big timers next time. I wasn't at any of the pre-Zune 2 launch stuff, so I can't even tell you who was there, but I don't think anyone as large as LP.
Just my thoughts... After the break, I have republished my report from this Linkin Park show as it was posted on Mobilitysite.
Repost from Mobilitysite....
Yesterday Sandisk announced their 8gb MicroSDHC card in Hollywood California. Sandisk was nice enough to fly us out here to celebrate this launch with a massive Block Party featuring 6 Bands. The main act was a band called Linkin Park. Ever heard of them? No. Me neither. lol, j/k. Anyhow, read on to find out how Sandisk Woke Up Out Phones.
The day started off in Birmingham at 6am. I was on the 6:10 after an hour drive from home.
I arrived in LAX at 10:30am PST. I was greeted by Sandisk and we took a shuttle to the Hollywood Renaissance Hotel. I was happy to have been joined by Mike Wong from Sandisk. I’ve know Mike for a while and it was great to see him again.
I arrived at the hotel, check in and hit the streets right away. Check here for pictures of my walk down Hollywood.
Sandisk went all out for this launch. At 3:50pm, I met with my group of media
in a meeting room. Here Sandisk gave all of us the Nokia N95 and an 8gb MicroSDHC card. They had helpers wandering around to help us quickly familiarize ourselves with the Nokia N95.
After this, we shuttled over to the Viper Room for food and a press conference/meet and greet with the bands. At this meet and greet, I ran into Howard Chui from Howard Forums and Vincent from Slashgear.
Next up with the Key Club, where I spent most of the evening. (The Roxy, The Viper Room, and the Key Club were all closed for this private party by Sandisk) At the Keyclub, I saw The Crystal Method and Supernatural 1st….
Next up was … uh.. LINKIN PARK. For photos click here, I took over 400.
Linkin Park played a 1 hour set. They thanked everyone at Sandisk and rocked the house. I swear the floor was moving 1 foot vertical as we bounced to the music.
All in all, this was an awesome event and an unforgettable experience for me. I want to thank Sandisk, Lyman PR, and Guerilla Union for making this all possible. A+ Event. More about this event to come. For pictures, visit my personal blog at Chris.Leckness.com.

This is similar to what they did with "Live at the BBQ" last year. They had a bunch of headline, big-name talents (MIMS comes immediately to mind and the unannounced LL Cool J), but also a number of more indie, low-level famous talent (Large Professor, the Clipse).
I went to Rock The Bells (which happened to be sponsored by Sansa) two weeks earlier, and though the talent was obviously more well-known very few of the artists seemed truly interested in performing.
Check my thoughts from last year’s concert: http://zunethoughts.com/news/show/22978/live-at-the-bbq-a-techie-perspective.html
It’d be a great idea, get some big name bands up on stage, and draw a ton of attention to the zune. It just seems like microsoft has been a bit hesitant with zune, they need to go all out and take some chances. Show that they’re serious about zune. Having a big show like this, or something along those lines would prove their commitment.
A big name for the launch is exactly what Zune3 needs. You need to get people talking, and the bigger the name, the bigger the buzz. MS stays in the shadow too much with the Zune. I ran into someone at work the other day that had no idea MS even had a music player.
I completely disagree with all those people saying that what zune needs is a big name to promote it.Let’s say that Rolling Stones make a deal with MS and they start advertising the Zune.Maybe even a Zune sponsored gig??Would that help?Sorry but the answer is "NO".
And here’s a simple why.If the new device comes with the problems and the lack of some basic functions that other devices out there offer, not even god all mighty would help.
Give zune what it needs, both software and hardware wise, and leave the marketing aside.Cause to be honest you can’t really beat Apple in that. The only thing MS could do to surpass the iPod is make zune a one of a kind device. If they don’t do that then you can kiss market share increase goodbye ^^
ps: Sry for my english, but been a while since i last wrote a comment in that language and i’m too bored to read it over to see if it makes any sense
