I completely disagree with all those people saying that what zune needs is a big name to promote it.Let's say that Rolling Stones make a deal with MS and they start advertising the Zune.Maybe even a Zune sponsored gig??Would that help?Sorry but the answer is "NO".
And here's a simple why.If the new device comes with the problems and the lack of some basic functions that other devices out there offer, not even god all mighty would help.
Give zune what it needs, both software and hardware wise, and leave the marketing aside.Cause to be honest you can't really beat Apple in that. The only thing MS could do to surpass the iPod is make zune a one of a kind device. If they don't do that then you can kiss market share increase goodbye ^^

ps: Sry for my english, but been a while since i last wrote a comment in that language and i'm too bored to read it over to see if it makes any sense :P

A big name for the launch is exactly what Zune3 needs. You need to get people talking, and the bigger the name, the bigger the buzz. MS stays in the shadow too much with the Zune. I ran into someone at work the other day that had no idea MS even had a music player.

It'd be a great idea, get some big name bands up on stage, and draw a ton of attention to the zune. It just seems like microsoft has been a bit hesitant with zune, they need to go all out and take some chances. Show that they're serious about zune. Having a big show like this, or something along those lines would prove their commitment.

This is similar to what they did with "Live at the BBQ" last year. They had a bunch of headline, big-name talents (MIMS comes immediately to mind and the unannounced LL Cool J), but also a number of more indie, low-level famous talent (Large Professor, the Clipse).

I went to Rock The Bells (which happened to be sponsored by Sansa) two weeks earlier, and though the talent was obviously more well-known very few of the artists seemed truly interested in performing.

Check my thoughts from last year's concert: http://zunethoughts.com/news/show/22978/live-at-the-bbq-a-techie-perspective.html
