NOT!!! I've demonstrated this before, but here is another demo just to show how much nicer the Zune's Video playback in comparison to the iPod Classic. I can hear the iSheep already, "but the Touch... The touch does this... the touch does that...." iSheep, listen (or read) closely to the words coming off my fingertips... THE IPOD TOUCH COST MUCH MORE THAN THE ZUNE 80... It's like comparing apples and oranges.
Anyhow, the Zune is on the right, the iPod Classic on the left.

BUT…BUT…
I can get a 32GB iTouch for 500 dollars !!!!
ajajajajaja
WOW! Thanks for reminding me why i have a zune and not an ipod!! LOL!!! Zune pwn’s ipod!!!
"iSheep"? Seriously?
That’s a tremendous turnoff.
500 dollars? That’s a rip off. Go and get yourself a zune.
wow i had no idea how terrible the classics video playback actually was.
Lol, yep, a lot of people simply don’t understand this concept. I have an ipod 30 gig for video.. and watching video’s on my friends 80 gig zune is sooo much nicer.
This is stupid, because in real life you see that the zunes display is a lot dimmer and the white spots are blue. When I compared the Zune to my old iPod 5g (watching a photo), it seemed that Zunes screen makes everything look blue, even when there is yellow sunlight, it looks blue and Cold, I’ll make a video too.
Lucas MAX is a liar idiot! I have a ipod classic and a zune 80 and i have done many comparisons like this and the zune ALWAYS is better looking! Zune pwn’s ipod!
I agree w/ jacob. me and a bud did a side by side comparison of borat, my zune 30 v his 80gb classic, and the zune beat it easily.
and the touch will have crappy vid quality after you scratch the screen
Yes rock4christ, The Zune 30 screen is good and the Zune 80 Screens Contrast is REALLY GOOD, but the fact remains, Zune 80 Screen is too bluish (compared to Zune 30 and iPod Video/Classic. jacob - Shut the f**k UP Coward!
you’re forgetting one major thing about the video playback, who is able to put their mp3 player down on a surface to watch the video? when i watch a video its on a subway, thats why the classic is better for me. and say the zune’s headphones are better then ipods, that is true, but they can’t compare with my new klipsch earphones. so now you’re saying you’d rather have comfort when you watch your video on the subway over the large screen? yes.
Lucas MAX i am not a coward! I am simply saying that video on the zune 80 completly pwn’s video on the ipod! Zune pwn’s ipod!!!
Woe, hand on guys. One, stop the name calling. This is a discussion on video playback not a flame war. Jacob LucasMax stated a valid fact. The screen on the Zune 80 does have a blueish tint to it. Now its not as exaggerated as he describes it but it still is somewhat corn starch blue. That alone does not make him an idiot. LucasMax, Jacob is not a coward he also stated a valid fact. In contrast and color tones the Zune 80 has more saturation and hue. I have a Zune 30, 80 and iPod Classic 80. The color is washed out on the classic not because of brightness but because of LCD manufacturer. Comparing the Zune 80 screen to the Classic is like comparing my brand new 906BW Samsung monitor to that of the Samsung SyncMaster 173p. Example, 906BW = 2000:1 contrast ratio. Samsung SyncMaster 173p = 700:1. The Zune 80 would be the 906BW in this example, and the iPod classic would be the SM173p. Zune 80 wins by a large margin. Now as for the real contrast ratio i have yet to find the data on them. But the Zune is far from dim as comparison to the Classic or the iTouch for that matter.
jacob, no.
Sorry for calling people iSheep. That was unprofesional of me to do. It sets a bad example. Let’s keep it nice here. :)
darkwolf33333, I Agree 100%. One thing I noticed is that the iPod has a better Pixel reaction. On the Zune, If you watch movies, You can kinda see, that it takes a bit of time for a pixel, to change it’s color. Sometimes if you watch scenes with fast moving, they blur a bit.
to Lucas Max: That reaction is known as ghosting. I too have noticed this on my Zune 80 but its more prevalent on the older 30 model, but I have also noticed it on my Classic as well.
“Johannes Post

Ghosting has two different causes which add up:
1. The inertia of liquid crystals in LCDs causes switching from one color to another to take some time.
2. In CRTs, each pixel flashes for a short amount of time once every vertical cycle. In contrast to that, an LCD’s pixel maintains its brightness over the complete period of the cycle. This certain property of LCD results in the so called “Sampling and Hold” effect. It makes smoothly moving objects or pictures appear out of focus when the movement is followed with one’s eye. The resulting streaks (motion blur) have nothing to do with the inertia if liquid crystals, which means that even if liquid crystals switched without any delay, there would still be these S&H ghosting effects.”
John couldn’t have said it any better. All LCD screens have ghosting, even my 2 millisecond response time 906BW has ghosting. I believe the best in LCD is 1 millisecond. However there is no getting around it. All LCD’s have ghosting. The Classic has ghosting but its less noticeable due to the lower contrast ratio. I have noticed this with my older LCD it seems the higher the contrast, the more noticeable the ghosting. I highly doubt that either Apple or Microsoft invested in a 1 millisecond response time screen. The increase of the price of manufacturing would have been squandered in such a minute screen that the losses in money far outweigh the gains. Plus the smaller the screen size the more it cost to manufacture. I hope that information was help full to you. Take care.
^^
Wow, That is really a good lesson. Thanks. Some of these - I know, some other things - not.
Your welcome.
LucasMax. I apologize for insluting you…i was defending the zune. I own a ipod classic and a zune 80 and i think that everything looks better on the zune 80 screen.
In certain ways, yes, in some other, no.
I didn’t notice the apology by webmaster Chris Leckness. There should be no need for an apology for the simple fact that, “iSheep” or as I call conformist, “sheeple”, are such as described. They see an iPod on “super famous actor so and so, which I care nothing about,” and have to buy one, or their poor little peer pressured world comes crumbling down around them. Sadly there are too many of these kinds of people in the US. Instead of looking at the product and how well it is manufactured or its audio fidelity (as will MP3 players) they go straight for the thing that their favorite actor or singer uses. I’m sure if these famous people said “eat fecal matter”, people would concoct a sincere excuse for why they do it. This is why civilization is in decline.
iSheep, although it could be mistook for rude and unprofessional, is a perfect example to name conformist of Apple products. You couldn’t have found a more appropriate term Chris Leckness. Keep up the good humor, the world needs more people who can laugh.
Definition
iSheep: a person who has conformed, do to media and corporate propaganda, to that of Apple, with no appreciation towards other manufacturers products, or any product of superior quality and ingenuity. They will defend Apple products on any grounds, even if there isn’t a ground for which they can stand on.
I’m a Huge Fan of Apple. I once switched to a PC, I took me 5 months to realize: "I’m Going Back! Back to Apple!" And I still Love All of apple products for the stability and quality and most of Design.
I don’t care what product or brand it is as long as it gets the job done and efficiently. Macs are good for certain criteria, like graphic arts and design but other than that most of my equipment, like my printer, keyboard, mouse, and game pad wont work correctly under that of Mac OS X leopard. The only thing that does work with the Mac OS X comp i built was my Cintiq 12wx tablet. Finding parts which drivers could work under the Mac OS X leopard was also an expensive
You mention quality with Apple products? Did you know that before a postee of You Tube came along, Apple knowingly sold iPod videos with a faulty batteries that lasted only 18 months. When the man questioned Apple on multiple occasions they denied him a refund and basically said, “tough luck!” After he posted his video on you tube and got more than 10,000,000 plus hits as well as the major news stations involvement, he then finally received a new iPod video, and Apple erected a plan to replace the faulty iPods. I would not call that quality under any circumstances. They also package putrid earphones with their iPods. The Zune Premium earphones, while not top of the line $200.00 plus earphones, sound worlds better than that of the iPods ear buds. The finishing touch on iPods is their non scratch resistant screen, and their easy to scratch back plate. Simple modification that wouldn’t cost more than a half of a cent to manufacture, yet Apple refuses to listen to their customers and do it. Is that quality?
As for design, apple has kept the same shape, color, features for the last seven years with only minor tweets and UI re-hauls. After their forth iteration you would think they could fester better ideas. And the Classic UI nothing more than a simplified version of the iTouch UI.
Compare the first generations of the Zune to the new generation. They took what they learned from the responses of consumers and modified to the users liking. This carried out into the Zune 2.3 UI and the new 2.1 software. iTunes 6 was as plain as five. iTunes 7 has some new features but its still plain. And my father still cant understand how to operate it. How is that good design? I don’t understand. Sony’s Walkman has shown much more improvement than the iPods over the last three years than the apple has in seven. The Walkmans’ UI is much more refined in their new MP3 players than the iPod Classics. Same with the SanDisc Sansa products. All of which I tested before purchasing my Zune 80.
Now for testing purposes one of my friends let me use his Sennheiser HD650’s on a range of MP3 players including the Zune 30 and 80, Sansa View 16gb, Sony Walkman nwz-a829blk 16GB player, iPod Classic 80GB, iTouch 16GB, and the iPod Nano 8GB. The songs used were “Twin Devils Moshirechik and Kotanechik’s Extermination” by Rei Kondoh, “Gears of War,” by Kevin Riepl and “Quutamo,” by Apocalyptia. Each song was sampled at 320KB/s and was individually downloaded into each of the said MP3 players.
In closing its not wise to pledge allegiance to a sole corporation. I feel that is why the iPods are inferior to most other MP3 players out in the market. In terms of audio fidelity, quality, and design. The only innovative MP3 player that Apple has invented in the last decade was its iPhone which was then reconstructed into the iTouch for those who could care less about the cell phone. However $500.00 for 32GB device, (which boils down to a rough 30 - 29GB in real life) is a good quality laptop. I would rater have a laptop than a MP3 player.
Lucas I forgot to ask you something. If you only use Mac’s for computers because you’ve “gone back to apple,” how is it that you are using a Zune device? Zune only work for Windows, nothing else. I started explaining things before I even asked you if you have any long time affiliation with the Zune device. My mistake. If you haven’t used the Zune 80 for more than a month, then your opinions are not based on acquired experience with the device, but rather that of emotion. But it doesn’t matter I enjoy educating others, no matter how experienced they believe they are on the topics they wander unknowingly into.
I set up Windows XP on my Mac using Parallels Software, so i can use my active iTunes Library for both jukeboxes - iTunes, Zune Software. I have my Zune 80 For a Month and a half, or maybe a little more.
"my equipment, like my printer, keyboard, mouse, and game pad wont work correctly under that of Mac OS X leopard" - How is that Possible? I NEVER, repeat, Never had to set up ANY drivers at all, for any device at all. I have an iPod Video 5.5 gen 80 Gb for the second year, and another iPod Video 5th Gen witch is as old as the 1st iPod Video was annaunced - year 2005. Both of them work fine, no battery changing done. Agree, iPod Earphones Suck HARD. "As for design, apple has kept the same shape, color, features for the last seven years with only minor tweets and UI re-hauls. After their forth iteration you would think they could fester better ideas. And the Classic UI nothing more than a simplified version of the iTouch UI."Completely DISAGREE. Actually Your exaggerating A LOT."And my father still cant understand how to operate it." I guess your father is about 50 years old, or he isn’t patient. iTunes is really, really easy to use.I guess you have as Not much experience with Apple Products as I have with using a iPhone SDK, witch i downloaded for an unknown reason, and now I Don’t know what to do with it…
Ah good ^^ so then then you do have experience with the device. You are most likely a rarity then. Most Mac users I know don’t even know about Parallels. I guess we are on opposite sides of the fence but have tried the same things. Other than the Mac OS X PC I built and sold, using parts that work with the Mac OS’s. Using Dailyapps hack attack I was able to run Leopard on my normal PC and despite their problems I had none what so ever. However despite its beauty, it lacked the driver support for all of my equipment other than my Wacom Cintiq 12WX. Plus, a lot of other features. I did the switch for little over a month, then finally said enough to it and migrated back to Windows Vista Ultimate with XP MCE on the Virtual PC. The one thing I missed the most on my PC was Office 07 enterprise. It’s integration and multitude of features. But that not the only thing. Windows dose the same thing Max OS X does and more. Here is a link to a person on YA that has dealt with mac more than I have and gives a good concise answer about the truth of Mac and Windows. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080224165727AAdvjqr
"Windows dose the same thing Max OS X does and more." - No.Your opinion was made in an inaccurate way. The experience you had was Inaccurate because, Mac OS X is not built to run on PC’s. If you Try Mac OS X on a Beautiful, Shiny iMac, you’ll have non of those problems you had. Mac OS X is a more advanced system in my Opinion. believe me, i have Day to day Windows and mac Experience with PC’s in my school. I’m forced to use a PC in my school, because all the Macs are occupied by other students, they love them. The PC’s in my school have Windows XP, and they were bought a year ago, they have a lot of problems. The Mac’s in my school are 5 year old eMac’s with G4 1 Ghz Processor, they Run Maya Sooth as butter, where as the PC’s having better graphic’s performance (because they are new, and have new Nvidia video cards) have more problems, lags during the Work.I totally understand your experience with OS X, but it is bad only because it was done the wrong way.I really Respect your opinion, because I can see that you are smart, but in this case you have to believe me.
Really? After they invented the click wheel which came from the iPod mini, they left the design the same, while just slimming it down. After that its the same. As I said Sony’s Walkman series has shone more refinement that that of Apples iPod.
I’ve read all what he wrote, and agree PC’s are as almost as good as Mac’s when thy are taken care of. But Mac’s just work right out of the Box. My personal timing. It took me 7 minutes to unbox, plug, and do all the stuff I do on a computer. No driver installing needed, no Setting up needed ( Only the basic ones, witch took me 2 minutes).I never say : "Hey, I’m better than you because I have this"By All of his opinions I can obviously say that he is From the start PC user, and has a headache to Understand that Mac’s do not need to be customized, everything is made to work from the very 1st startup. And he lied, There are a ton of customization software available for the Mac.
By the things you say I can tell that you have almost no Idea what the word Design means. I can’t explain everything because I’m not too good in English, and to explain what is design, you have to have the a good knowledge of the Language you speak.
??? beautiful and shiny? You are looking at the outside my friend, if that is the case then my custom PC is a glow in the dark Darth Vader. I believe you about the mac, but too a point. My friends use macs, but only for art and design. Macs have their purposes but Window based PC’s are juts easier to deal with. Check out that link I sent you. I cant stand Apple’s guidelines for programming or anything of the sort. It’s like a suffocating hand that puts not only a short leash on you but a cage around you as well. Sure it can seem user friendly but for a programmer it’s a nightmare. You have to use Apple’s programs, Apple’s products most of the time. Also what windows give free in updates for their customers, you have to pay for with Apple like Leopard, and Tiger. $130.00 for an update and UI re-hash? Forget it. PC is just so much more free in terms of limits on its owners. Also my PC trumps that of the Mac Pro desktop. I run two Quad Core Xeon’s that run at 3.2GHz per thread. Tri SLI 8800 Ultra GPU, 16GB of ram, 2x 750GB HDD and Blue Ray. I just finished building this thing a month ago, and only invested $3200 into it. A mac not even close on the GPU scale trying to meet my comp standards will cost $9,398.00. That is way to much for a computer that you can’t modify or repair yourself.

I am a graphic artist ^^ as well as a drafter. I have drafted the blue prints for my fathers house. As well as the mapping for the electrical. I built that house with him and the Jones construction, with my bare hands. I have invented multiple things to help with chores around the house, as well as other things. I have made battle bots, and i have programmed and created websites. I know what design is, apples reiterations are not beautiful designs, but old, boring, and… lacking. Don’t mock me for disliking a lacking product. I know far much more about design than you do. What have you designed?
Sorry. Some heart hitting sentences."Also what windows give free in updates for their customers, you have to pay for with Apple like Leopard, and Tiger. $130.00 for an update and UI re-hash?" WTF?0% True. I paid 10$ for the upgrade!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hows that for a Free? And it’s a Major release, not an update.and Full blown Windows costs About 300$, Mac OS X costs about 100$.Your both An Artist and a programmer? What else are you? may be a Bus driver, a racer and a Cooker and may be a chief, police officer. Yes I see. Very Impressive. A man who is an artists despite math . I say that because I’m a real artist and learn in a real Art School."My friends use macs, but only for art and design. Macs have their purposes but Window based PC’s are juts easier to deal with."I’d say that if I were a PC user and defending my Stupid opinion. Sorry. I’ll never talk to you again, because You are (Maybe Smart), but you are a stubborn!BTW, by this: "I know what design, apples reiterations are not beautiful designs, but old, boring, and… lacking." You just approved your 0% knowledge about design, and no, Copy paste isn’t your knowledge.Bye Forever.Cheers, A real Artist, not a fake PC Stubborn who tells shit just to proof his foolish opinion.
By the way that person you said lied, has been working with macs since their release. I also owned the first Macintosh the "Apple" its in my basement in a glass case. It does not work anymore. I also own a IMB 5150 PC it still works and runs windows 1.0 perfectly.

need i say more?
to me you seem like the stubborn one backing up “stupid opinions.” If name calling is all you can stoop too then so be it. I dont know where you are from but the lepoard updade cost $130.00 when it was released. Its a patch not a full upgrade. I also got my Vista ultimate for only $189.99. Lets see thats just $59.01 more than leopard, and the a full install version, not an upgrade, or a update. The copy and paste, you wanted to know what design was, so I gave you the legal definition. I don’t run off emotion, but logic. And my major in college is engineering, and medical science, How can i not be a math student, when I’m acing Calculus 3 at Northern Michigan University? However, since a “real art” student like yourself is “so” much more intelligent than me, I guess I will see you… maybe on the MIT Chemical engineering roster. Take care.
Actually, what you do is not called Art. It’s called Dilettantism, witch is not ART.And after seeing your stuff. My conclusion, you have no Idea about design or quality. So live with it in your puny game minded word, and I can only hope you will change until death.
So a person of graphic arts, concepts of design, who draws, paints, sketches, and crafts images, paintings, blue prints and computer designs, and has done this all his life is not artist? So what is art to you then? Because if thats the case then no one is an artist. I don’t know what so called school you go to or what professors have taught you but art is something of beauty and/or stimulation. It can be anything. So are you saying all those people out there with talent and potential who post their art are not artist? How about those who spend months to years welding pieces of scrap metal into an interesting shape or design? They do create art don’t they? I have refrained from insulting a n00b like you because that would be immature. However your ideas of artistry, design, and innovation, seems far too skewed for you to be above adolescence. I have done more than just simple dabbling into art as you seem to perceive. But I guess a trolling n00b with such a average IQ as yours and ego problem, will stoop to any level to prove an inaccurate point. I also enjoyed how you went straight for the offensive when my sources proved your little connotation about Mac OSX Leopards pricing wrong. Apple has fallen behind in innovation with their iPod classic. You are a sad individual, and I would never degrade to the likings of you.
Dilettantes always think too good of them selves. And I repeat Artist (NOT) = Dilettante. As for the School I lear in: jrrmv.lv This is a the best school in Latvia (witch is where I live) formed by people from Russian Art Academy. Stop bugging me about your Inaccurate information on how much (you think) costs this Mac OS X Leopard Install Disk ( witch you think is an upgrade, but it’s actually a Major Release, And yes, I bought it for 10 bucks at the local Apple Store). Not anyone at all is not an artist if he thinks of great original Ideas and solutions, but you do non of these things according to what I saw on deviantart.com. You can spend months on putting different things together, but if the result is crappy - It’s not art. And for mentioning Apples Design Boring - If so, why every Apple product goes straight in the Design history museum? Why Johnny Ive gets so much Nobel prizes for his perfect Industrial Design? Why do I see Johnny mentioned as one of the most greatest designer of our age In every book that has something to do with Design? You know it makes me sad to see people like you who know very less about Art, Design and most of all - Quality, and think their geniuses. That is the Saddest thing in the word. It’s like someone would say that Linkin Park is Better that Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Dave Brubeck and other Genius musicians.
You’re both funny. All this mumbo-jumbo. I bought the ipod classic twice; returned it twice. It didn’t work, simple as that. People can conjure all their geeky qualifications in the world. They can invoke all the geeky encyclopedias in the world. At the end of the day, it is all up to my natural, pristine, unsullied ears. They are not compatible with ipod products, just as they are not compatible with arrogant words.
truthfully, both zune and ipod suck, even though i have an ipod classic, i would love to have gotten the new creative zen, but it isn’t close to 80 gigs, and i need alot. also i have a klipsch dock, which charges my ipod and plays it, wondefully. so truth is, get what works for you.
