This is a writer from Cnet's Crave blog, or shall I say Craze blog. What do I mean. Read her rant over at Crave and take it with a grain of salt. The 1st item that had me laughing uncontrolably was item #4 of 5. Judging by the 70 comments over there, I am not the only one that laughed.
4. The headphones
The Zune's headphones were, at first blush, one of the best things about it. They're nice, in-ear headphones with really good quality sound. They look good and fit comfortably, and the ends of the earbuds are magnetic, so they can hang around your neck without falling off. But here's the thing. The headphone cord is fabric, instead of the plastic-coated cable of iPod headphones or their ilk. And fabric, which is basically string, is one big knot waiting to happen. Combine the knotting tendencies of string with the magnetic ends of the earbuds, and the headphones are constantly in a state of tangle that you cannot even believe. It's a 10-minute endeavor to untangle them every time I pull them out of my bag. My bus ride is only 25 minutes to 30 minutes long. It's just not worth it.

yes well i need to say something, cnet, really suc#$, they compared the zune whit the ipod and the ipod win because is more pritti wtf?
and other reviews of cameras are the same, the say what they think is the best, but is not.
Strangely I was looking at the same article yesterday, and I got a kick outa it as well. I agree that the software is lacking, but some of her arguments are just… stupid. I mean, why is the wireless a BAD thing? It’s just a bonus feature, if she thinks it’s useless taht doesn’t make the zune worse..
Btw, “considering that my laptop lives in a tangle of connector cords on my breakfast bar anyway” wouldn’t taht be reason TO use wireless sync!?
Her rant makes no sense at all. I find the Zune headphones get tangled a lot less than the iPods because of the magnets and the cloth cord. The Zune store sells DRM free music and has a great subscription plan (Zune Pass). The software has a total of 6 menu options? HOLY CRAP! How can you find 6 choices confusing? All the options are right in front of you. The iTunes software has a lot more initial options. She’s basically writing the rant because the software deleted her music, yea that sucks, but that doesn’t allow you to use your journalism company to take your anger out on the product.
Haha, I do agree with Molly’s rant.
The Zune headphones (from the Zune 80) is horrible. The fabric cords don’t straighten out very well and the way it’s connected to the ear buds make them rub against itself like crazy, so unless your Zune is at max volume of 20, just moving your head a little bit will get you tons of noise from the headphone wires. It’s horrible.
I have never had a problem with tangling, but I do hate that rubbing sound, but over 10, I don’t recall hearing it. Goign to check now
she is dumb.
5.you cant use the basic functions of the software? hand over your computer, you don’t deserve it. also "heavily DRM’d"? has she EVER been to the itunes store?
4.The premiums are 100x better than the ipod ones and get tangled LESS
3.The interface is GREAT, as long as you are smarter than a sack of bricks."Oh noez teh album art is bigzorz, me no leik" the big album art is a good thing. you can actually tell what your listening to by picture unlike the postage stamp pictures on the ipod
2. "It has a extra feature the ipod doesn’t so I will bash it like an idiot and complain about having other cool options"
1. I agree with this one, except the dumb piracy part. she needs to do a guest sync from now on.
how does an idiot like this work for a tech site?
Yeah, I have had no issues with my premiums tangling at all. I also agree with rock4christ on #3. Â The interface is great and I love the large album art.
I only problem I had with the Zune software was the way it handled metadata and the latest update solved it. I find the software and the Zune itself to be very intuitive and so do my iPod using friends. I think Molly’s issue is she just really loves the iPod and there is nothing wrong with that. She does not want to have to click though songs a little differently, buy non cloth covered ear buds, have everyone know she listens to Carrie Underwood or have a non essential but nice to have feature like Wi-Fi go unused. It must be hell for her.
she makes a point with the headphones, thefabric doesnt last long and like mine, my headphones look like garbage becasue the fabric has unravled itself all over. And that noise you hear can be fixed by wrapping the headphone wire BEHIND your ear.
one thing didnt touch on, which i can understand by reading her article she didnt really use the ZUNE at all is the fact that this nice shiny screen, gets dirty EASY. Rather annoying, also little peices of dust tend to get cought between the screen and the zune itself in the little crack, ive tryed many things to clean that out, and found taking a peice of paper and inserting the corner and sliding it thru the crackl all aroudn the screen cleans it nice.
