"3M has been touting its mini-projectors for some time now (along with many others), but it looks like they're now finally a bit closer to landing in an actual product, with Samsung reportedly set to begin offering them later this year. What's not clear, unfortunately, is whether the projectors will actually be built into the cellphones (and if so, which ones), or simply offered as an attachment of some sort, but either way you can apparently expect to pay between $200 and $400 for the chance to spread a bit of visual pollution."
So phones with projectors are all well and good, but what what about a full-fledged media player with one? One like...oh I don't know, the ZUNE!?! It just seems like a perfect fit to me(at least moreso than a phone, ya know?), and while I personally don't know how much I'd use something like this, it would make sense to put mini-projectors on a device designed to play video before a phone. Rather than have friends crowd around your Zune screen or even a laptop to show them a video, you just throw it up on a wall for all to enjoy. What do you guys think, would you have a use for this? Would the lack of speakers kill it (for a phone or Zune)? Hit us up in the comments and let us know your thoughts.

It would be neat, but it’s a waste of battery (I feel a DIY project coming on though…), without speakers its completely pointless (I feel another DIY project coming on). (Of course, if someone hacked this together the folks over at Hack-A-Day would have a field day).
I’d say commercially it just wouldn’t be feasible; the technology just isn’t there yet.
I think you read my mind Jonathan.. I had been doing a lot of thinking of ways the zune could dominate the ipod, and was thinking about screen size when I wondered if it’d be possible for zunes to have built in projectors… I guess I’m not alone.
It’d be really awesome.
I think it’d be pretty awesome too. It’d obviously require redesigned hardware, so why not have it include a speaker too? Sure, they could release it as an accessory, but I think it’d be much more of a killer if it was an all-in-one Zune media center deal. Glad to see others are on similar wavelengths.
The ZunePhone we are testing has a holographic projector built in!
ALERT: New Zune maybe coming soon! I recently went to Sears looking for a Zune to purchase. Well, they didn’t have any out, so one of the clerks went into another room to order one. He came back saying he was sorry, Zunes can’t be aren’t available anymore, and that Microsoft isn’t shipping anymore! Could this mean a Zune Generation 3?! Hope so!
They had none of any kind of all, or just the one you were looking for? I find it hard to believe that they’d release a new one this soon…and with nothing leaking to the net as far as pictures, capabilities, specs, etc.Â
