Well, it's day one of using the new zune 3 features, (firmware, software, hardware, social, etc) and i'm wondering, so far how is everyone liking it? There are quite a few subtle, and not so subtle changes that have been great to see. I'm just beginning to delve into some of this new content, and so far the big highlights have been the updated new social pages, marketplace feature on the zune's, and most importantly, the clock! I'm quite interested in hearing all of your opinions though, were you disappointed? or do you love it?

well so far im liking it, its just i wish i could use channels but i dont have my zune pass anymore so it kinda sucks. But everything else is great. FINALLY they have a clock on the zune!!!! but its really small and in the corner and its hard to see with my background. but at least its there. and u also have to turn it on and set the time in settings.
I agree with the other Adam. Why should we have to set the clock when it could automatically be set by the computer. Or even via the internet to an NTP Time Server.
Lots of great features and changes to go through. But if we are going in the direction of direct internet connectivity via the WiFi then they need to consider the following:
· Social connectivity, message reading (sending will be difficult without a keyboard unless they offer a keyboard that can be attached to the bottom of the device)
· RSS Feed reader
· Streaming music video services
· Game play via the internet
· Podcast updating / downloading
chris, have you choose the new editor yet?
Hm, well the new update was good and bad. All the new things that they added were really cool, but they missed a lot of important little things. For example, they failed to fix the fact that the “find album info” database and the zune marketplace do not match up. In stead of giving us more control over the quicklist, they got rid of it altogether. I was hoping that they would add a button to rotate pictures on the zune when you press the center button and that menu pops up while viewing pictures, and they didn’t add one. All these things are really simple, and I can’t see any excuse for not adding them. But on the other hand, mixview is great, picks is great, the wifi store is awesome, and the new software looks nice except for the random orange block in the top left.
YES! definately agree with podcast updating and rss reader, it’s been good so far, but it sucks that the features are orientated around those with zune passes when something like only 15% of zune users have ‘em!
I like it alot, and considering I am using a 1st gen 30GB and this update works many kudos!
Where is audible support ??? weren’t they saying it was due out soon ??? also, pointless in putting games if they only allow you to use 2, no reason to even implement it until it has some content…Â seems they are pushing the marketplace heavily, trying to compete with iTunes…Â like the clock, but if its going to be so small, make it visible in all the windows like the play activity and lock
I really like it! All the new features are great and really add some more value to my Zune Pass. I was pleasantly surprised by all the performance updates. Every little bug or slow down problem I had was addressed!. I think the clock is fine and I can see it perfectly with my background. I like the games even though there are only two. It gets the ball rolling.
Greg,
Where did you find that 15% statistic on the Zune Pass? I didn’t know it was that few.
I think the update was a definite success. Once again they’ve shown that they’re willing to listen to their user-base as well as give their consumers reasons to be loyal. The community features are just more improvements on a system that has shown promise all along. Could they have done more with the update? Sure, but the question becomes what would have been sacrificed if they had tried to do more, and I think they did a magnificent job of balancing new features with important upgrades/updates. I give the 3.0 update a 8 out of 10 on my magical scale that probably means nothing.
Great update, keeps the general structure and functionality that we’ve gotten used to and then added some nice updates. It would have been nice to see the Audible support a part of the Zune software and not require opening AudibleManager too, but it’s a start. Sure there are additions that we’d like, but won’t there always be? Lots of features focused on the marketplace, but that’s a money maker and I’m happy to trade that for updates to 3 year-old models.
Thanks Zune!
I have a Zune Pass still! Sure beats going and spending $15 bucks on one CD that turns out to be garbage anyway. Clock to me was a waste of time, i have a blackberry and a, what’s it called, oh yeah, a watch to tell time. I like how there is a little visualization change with certain artist, much needed. Since they are trying to push the social so much, why can’t we play Texas Hold Em against other Zune users, wirelessly? Or can you?
if i install the update, will all my content be erased?
I’m really liking the 3.0 update. My biggest complaint, as far as the firmware is concerned, is I don’t like how you aren’t shown if a song or album is wma, or drm-free mp3s, when viewing the marketplace from your Zune. For that reason alone I think I’ll use the PC software much more, for downloading music, because I prefer getting mp3 version over wma (if they exist).
