Trouble in Zunadise
Posted by Chris Leckness on 10/9/08
I guess my little in car, constant use test on my Zune 80 has taken it's toll on my Zune 80 (aka BigDaddyZune). For the 3rd time in 2 weeks, my Zune's About page looks like this...

Rutroh raggy...

Hey, cool! Look at all that space available for new tunes!Â
Didn’t I warn you that something would go wrong if you kept going at it?? Don’t believe me? Go read what I wrote on your original article about how you would be doing this. Oh I’ll just post it here for your convenience:
“reminds me of the times I keep my Zune 80 in my dock continuously playing music in my room for days, and I give it frequent breaks when I bring it with me, but don’t make the same mistake I did- I use my zune 80 all the time in the dock playing music, even while I sleep (IDK why but it helps me sleep to music). Anyways, yes the play count boosts up but here is the main problem- IT GETS SCREEN BURN-IN!!! AHH, my precious Zune 80! Anyways, yea a few weeks ago I noticed that it had gotten screen burn-in of the play/pause icon, battery and wifi icon, along with shuffle and repeat icons, and even the music playback bar shows. It even shows an artist name, song and album along with the time passed in the song and the time remaining!! It’s all burned into my screen! so I thought it was just a common issue and I called Zune support, but I suspected it to be screen burn-in. So I did a hard reset and some other stuff with it that the lady from Zune support said to do. Still, after 2 hard resets, it showed these things on every screen. only during gray/light colors in that area of the screen you would easily see them, sometimes even during videos. So I had to ship it into zune support and it has a 1 year warranty. I am using my zune 8gb for music right now, so glad I got a second zune this year. Anyways don’t make the same mistake I did and leave it running for continuous hours. I almost put this as a story on the blog I write for (cliczune) but it doesn’t seem like news or anything. Well, I guess I’m going to post it now anyways…”
I know what I warned you about was a different issue, but maybe if you had listened to me in the first place you wouldn’t be encountering this issue either.
I told you so is just too much to say at this point, especially since my point for not doing this would lead to a different outcome on your Zune, but maybe you should read your comments next time…
unless you don’t read this one..
Hey wtf why is my avatar a picture of some guy??? I never put that there, and it’s definitely not me…. time to fix that.
Oh, I read all the comments and I did read that one. I agree 100% too. The thing is, with that test, I was trying to see how long it would take to fail it. Then I gave up on the test
2 weeks later, here we are.
Weird. Ill look into that avatar thing. Weird.
Sorry, I just assumed you never read it. I guess my advice should have said you should listen to some of the comments on here lol.
But I just re-read my old comment and realised that was when I had my 8gb while my 80 was in repair. You might want to end up fixing that Zune yourself, unless you want a red 80GB Zune.
What happened to me (more zune problems, but will be promptly fixed with my purchase of a Zune 120 in black) was that the Zune I got from the replacement center had ended up breaking 2 weeks later, from what appeared to be hard drive damage (weird clicky noises, commonly heard from dead HDD’s). I knew it wasn’t my fault, so I ended up calling Zune support. They ship me another replacement box. After about 3 weeks (much faster wait than the 1.5 months I waited for my first 80GB to come back), I receive a box. I open it up, and there’s a RED 80GB! I didn’t pay for a red 80GB, right? I did however pay for a red 8GB. SO I call Microsoft support. At first I’m nice. Then after about 10 minutes of talking to the rep, I ask to talk to the manager. I do end up speaking with the manager. For 45 minutes! The guy said they don’t guarantee that we get the same color as we sent in. But the rep that filled out my repair form never said this, but she did say however that there was a shortage on replacement black 80GB’s. So I said make sure you get me a black one, and I end up getting a red one on my doorstep. I’m on the phone for about 35 minutes with this guy, and he won’t budge. I even offer to have them take my 80gb and I buy a Zune 120gb and pay the difference. He says no, the policy is the plicy. Well, I WAS NEVER INFORMED of this policy.
They said there were no more 80GB’s in black at the time. This was about a month ago.
If I was the average consumer, I would be really pissed with Zune and never buy their product. Since I’m not the average consumer, I know better not to blame the Zune brand on the actions of one manager that was an Asshole. He even said if I wanted to send a complaint (which I asked for) I would have to write Microsoft’s legal department in WA. Pen and Paper, since when does Microsoft, the world’s technology LEADER not have an EMAIL adress or even PHONE NUMBER for their legal department!!?
Anyways, I decided I’m getting a 120GB in black and give my 80GB to my younger brother, who somehow broke his first 30GB’s screen and lost his second one. He’s not happy about the red either, so he’s getting a skin for it.
So my advice is call Zune support and see if they have any more black 80GB replacements, otherwise be prepared for a new red Zune 80.
(nothings wrong with red, in fact it’s my favorite color (black is not really a color), it’s just that I already have a red 8GB, and I wanted the black 80GB because it isn’t shiny on the front (scratches) , and it looks cooler than red in my opinion))
Oh yeah and this time you may want to take my advice, unlike last time lol.
still no fix for that avatar?
