  • Zune.net | Zune Extended Service Contract $59.95

Microsoft is offering an extended warranty service on Zune devices to the US and Canada for $59.95.  And since my last check the USD-CAN dollar ratio is about the same so not much calculating needs to be done to figure out the difference.

The extended warranty plan can be signed up for under the services section of the Zune.net site here.  I checked my devices to see when they will be expiring and November is right around the corner.

Six exceptional reasons to invest in a Microsoft service contract

    1. You'll stop costly repair headaches before they start, for a total of two entire years.
    2. You'll have access to our Microsoft Customer Care Center seven days a week.
    3. You'll enjoy fast, convenient service from the only company qualified to repair your product.
    4. Our knowledgeable professionals can help you diagnose and correct some problems right over the phone.
    5. There's no limit to the number of times you can obtain service during the terms of your coverage.
    6. You'll have the option to renew your protection for as long as you own your product. (They should do this for Vista products!)

So if your getting to the end of that initial one-year warranty you may want to consider it but as for me I never get extended warranties (except on my Playstation3) or own a single Zune long enough to need it.

  • Replace the Zune 30 Hard Drive with a 60gb Drive

I don't endorse this, but hey... This guys provides us with 2 videos detailing how to remove the 30gb drive and replace it with a 60gb model.

I take it for granted that most people know that you can only sync up to 3 Zunes to one Zune Pass. (which by the way is a blessing, I would think that limiting it to only one would be better business for Microsoft)

Anyhow, Technipages has a post about how to clear one of your Zunes off your account to allow a new Zune to be synced with your Zune Pass.

  • How to Recalibrate your Zune Battery

Vasudev over at meraTechPort was having some issues with his Zune 4 not showing the proper battery level indication, so he found the answer and posted a little guide on how to recalibrate your Zune Battery icon. He found his answer here: KB article ID927710.

To properly cycle the battery, follow these steps:

    - Update your Zune with the latest Zune device firmware available. At present the latest version is Version 2.3 (1145). For this, from the Zune software installed on your comp. click > Settings > Software > General > Check for updates. Connect your Zune with USB Sync cable, open the Zune software while the Zune device is still connected to your computer, the Zune software searches the Internet for the latest version of the firmware. If a newer version of the Zune firmware is available, a message to update your device appears. You can also manually check for new device updates by clicking Settings > device > Device Update.
NOTE: Do not move or disconnect the Zune device until the update is complete. The update may take several minutes. During this time, the Zune device may restart several times.

    - Now we will come to the calibration part. With the battery at a half-full charge or less, connect the Zune device to a power source and fully charge it until you get the green battery icon. ( batfull) . Now disconnect it from power source.

    - Go to the default screen > settings > display > backlight > and select 'always on'. Now from the display option only select brightness > and set it to 'high'.

    - Come back to default screen by holding back button. Select music, shuffle all.

    - Keep your Zune aside. Once the Zune device turns off; which will take some time, press the play\pause button to check whether your Zune turns again or not. If the Zune turns back on, wait until it turns off again, and then press the play/pause button. Repeat this step until the Zune device no longer turns on.

    - When the Zune no longer turns on, connect it to a power source and Change the display settings back to your preferred choices, defaults are backlight >15sec. and brightness > medium

    - Fully charge the device until the battery icon appears green ( batfull).

So in this way you can recalibrate your battery. After recalibrating, my Zune battery icon accurately represent the battery charge available.

    Thanks

  • Did You Get A New Zune For Christmas?

Zune Luv put together some very nice tips for getting you started if you got yourself a new Zune for Christmas.

The 1st tip they mentioned was a 14 Day Free Zune Pass. Hell, I didn't even know there was one. Of course, I have been paying for Zune pass since day one anyhow.

Sign up for your 14 day free trial of the Zune Pass. The card for the signup came with your new Zune. Check it out - it is a lot of fun.

They have some other good advice on where to get some free music and such too. My advice is to bookmark GotZune.com and come back often for our dry humor, great commentary, and of course... some giveaways. Grab the camera and share your pictures here in our gallery.

Don't forget to register in the the Zune.net forums and grab a Zune Card.

Make sure to read the rest of the tips at Zune Luv.
